William A. Walkerwicz, a resident of Kerhonkson, NY, peacefully passed away on October 31, 2023. He was 87 years old. Born on September 29, 1936 in Teaneck, NJ to Natalie (Ulanska) and John Walkerwicz, Bill's life was defined by family, service to others, and cherished memories.
After completing his education, Bill honorably served his country as a member of the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he dedicated himself to his work as a steel worker at Channel Master and VAW in Ellenville. While working their Bill held leadership positions and served as President of the labor union, Local 7338, United Steel Workers. Even after retiring, Bill continued to contribute to the community by driving a school bus for the Roundout Valley School District.
A true local at heart, Bill relished in the beauty of his surroundings. He found solace and joy in fishing as well as numerous cross-country adventures alongside his beloved partner of 51 years, Hilda Gray. Family meant everything to Bill and his dogs held a special place in his heart.
Bill is survived by his loving companion Hilda Gray; his son Steven Joseph Walkerwicz and his companion Renata; his daughter Victoria Gray-Roddy and her husband Robert; as well as his granddaughters Danielle (Steve) and Nicole. His brother Michael (Karen) Walkerwicz, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members also mourn his loss.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents Natalie and John Walkerwicz. He also experienced profound loss with the passing of his son Cpt. Ronald C. Walkerwicz, USMC, and his brother Thomas Walkerwicz and sister-in-law Betty.
The family will receive friends during visitation hours on Friday, November 3, from 6-8pm at Humiston Funeral Home in Kerhonkson. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held the following day, Saturday, November 4, at 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Kerhonkson.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hudson Valley Hospice Foundation and/or the Ulster County SPCA. These heartfelt contributions will honor Bill's legacy and support organizations close to his heart.
