Walter M. Bogert, Jr. of Kerhonkson, NY and formerly of Maryville, TN, passed away on June 8, 2022. He was 98 years old. Walter was born on April 18, 1924 in Paterson, NJ; he was the son of the late Walter and Amelia (Doremus) Bogert.
On November 25, 1998 Walter married the former Marjorie Dennett at their home in Ponce Inlet, FL. Walter was a World War II veteran and remained in the Naval Reserves where he was a Lieutenant Commander. Walter was an alumni of Buchnell University, graduating as an Electrical Engineer. Walter was a retired aerospace engineer who designed the electrical system for the X–15 rocket engine. Walter was retired from Teledyne Brown Engineering, Huntsville, AL. He was an avid volunteer where he gave back to the community where he lived. He helped restore the Cape Canaveral Fresnel lens that is housed in the Ponce Inlet Lighthouse complex. Walter was a volunteer at the Blount Memorial Hospital in Maryville, TN. He will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew him.
Walter is survived by his loving wife, Marjorie; his children, Dixie Saxe of FL, Carol Lynne Heger (Lynn) of MO, Holly VanBeek (Dale) of WI, Ward Lawrence Bogert (Pam) of CA, Neil Bogert (Shannon) of AL, and Scott Bogert (Mary) of TN; his step-children, Suzanne Beilman (Joe) of Kerhonkson, and Kathleen Hranowsky of Warwick; his grandchildren, Niki (Joe) Decker, Michael (Beth) Saxe, Amy Saxe, John (Cindy) Heger, Katie (Randy) Hahn, Jennie (Bob) Tuttle, Matthew (Amanda) Heger, Nathan Heger, Kelly (Charles) Hixon, Laura VanBeek, Amanda VanBeek, Brian (Marissa) VanBeek, Nathan (Lauren) VanBeek, Maegan (Kraigen) Smally, Katie Ingram, Jackson Ingram, Stephanie Bogert, Jaden Bogert, Nicholas Bogert, Krista Usko, Brian (Erika) Beilman, William Still, Emma Still, and Zachary Still; 23 great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Besides his parents Walter was predeceased by his wife of 50 years, Charlca Bogert, and his son, David Christopher Bogert.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson. A service to celebrate Walter’s life will be held at a future date.
