Shirley June Freer DeGraw passed peacefully into rest with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 23, 2015 at the home of her daughter Cheryl Labella in White Sulphur Springs. She was born on June 20, 1926 in Kerhonkson, NY the eldest daughter of Charles Simeon Freer and Rennie Green Freer.
A graduate of Ellenville High School and the Kingston Hospital School of Nursing, Shirley worked as a registered nurse in hospital and home health. She left nursing to raise her children and work on the family dairy farm, returning to nursing as an office nurse with DeLeo Family Medicine. Shirley was a member of the Community Bible Church.
Shirley was married to Earl H. DeGraw on July 20, 1947. They were married for 46 years before he passed away in September 1993.
She was a loving mother to four daughters and one son, Bonnie Mitchell, Diane Jones (Richard), Cheryl Labella and William DeGraw (Deborah). She was predeceased by her eldest daughter Judy DeGraw Gildemeyer, a devoted grandmother to Dawn Mitchell-McCoy, Christina Mitchell Bates, Melissa Lee (Paul), Johanna Davey (Greg), Keith (Stephanie) Jones, Kimberly Jones (Jonathan) Provencher, Jamie Labella, Olivia DeGraw and Victoria DeGraw, great grandmother to Katelyn, Brittany, Aurora, Lindsay, Samuel, Jasmine, Logan, Aden, Sage, Zoey and Elaia. Also surviving are her two sisters Edith Howe of Utica and Carolyn Hudson of Kerhonkson as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to Shirley’s devoted care givers Deborah, John, Kathy, Pat and Dolores.
Visiting will be held on Friday, March 27th from 3 to 7pm with a celebration of her life beginning at 7pm at HB Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. Burial will take place on Saturday, April 11th at 1pm at Palentown Cemetery, Kerhonkson.
