Sheryl Ann Butler of Kerhonkson, NY, died on Tuesday, February 7, 2017. She was 68 years old. Sheryl was born on September 19, 1948 in Brooklyn, NY and was the daughter of the late Morris and Rose Edith (Zank) Music.
Sheryl had married Donnel Butler on September 28, 1986 in Kingston, NY and together they lived in Kerhonkson for over 20 years. Sheryl had earned her Master’s Degree in Education from SUNY New Paltz. She had taught in the Ellenville School District prior to working at Eastern Correctional Facility where she was the Deputy Superintendent of Programs before retiring in 2004. Sheryl had then become a Professor at SUNY Ulster teaching Criminal Justice. She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Zion Church in Ellenville. She loved to sing and play the piano. Nothing was dearer to her than being with her family and friends.
Sheryl is survived by her loving husband Donnel. She was a mother to so many; Brian (Ana) Butler, Trisha (Erick) Butler, Madison (Marc) Kalo, Matthew Rivera, Ethan Rivera, Harrison Rivera, Algenea Williams, Eljava Williams, Kevin Butler and Bennie Butler. Her 5 grandchildren; Jerico, Sherylann, Branden, Briana and Nasir. Her niece, Penny (Ralph) Simmons and great nieces and nephew; Cassandra, Rebecca and Cody. Her sister, Barbara (Peter) Music and cousins; Beverly, Joel and Allen.
Memorial visiting hours will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 from 4-6pm at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd Street, Kerhonkson. The funeral service will begin that evening at 6pm at the funeral home, Rev. Mary Bruce will officiate.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Sheryl’s memory to the Butler family.
