SFC. Edwin C. DeGrote, Jr

SFC. Edwin C. DeGrote, Jr. of Kerhonkson, NY passed away surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Thursday, August 18, 2011. He was 64 years old. Edwin was born on February 6, 1947 in Hackensack, NJ the son of the late Edwin C. and Rebecca (Conklin) DeGrote.

Edwin and his wife of 47 years, Shirley (Warren), were married on March 22, 1964 in Wallkill. Edwin was a Veteran of the United States Army and the NY Army National Guard. Besides his family, the proudest thing he ever did in life was his military career. He was a member of the VFW and the 156 Field Artillery Veterans Association in Kingston. Edwin also loved being outdoors and camping with his family. He was a member of the Rondout Valley Rod and Gun Club.

Edwin is survived by his wife, Shirley. His children; Sara-Jane Mergendahl and her husband Ralph of Wawarsing, Edwin DeGrote III and his wife Rose of Kerhonkson, Christine Conklin and her husband James of Kerhonkson, Timothy DeGrote of Kerhonkson, Michael DeGrote and his wife Deana of Kerhonkson and Ann Grisham and her husband Joshua of Waxachie, TX. Two nephews and a niece that Edwin raised as his own; Constance Kinch of Ellenville, Walter Warren of Kingston and John Warren of Texas. His brothers, James DeGrote of Anchorage, AL and David DeGrote of Kerhonkson. His sisters, Ivy Marcel of Napanoch and Teresa MacDonald of Kerhonkson. 9 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held Sunday, August 21st from 1-3 & 6-8pm at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson. Funeral Services will be celebrated on Monday the 22nd 10am at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery, Kerhonkson.
