Rose Ushko

Rose Ushko, of Mt. Dora, FL, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018. She was 95 years old. Rose was born on July 22, 1922 in Cassville, NY. She was the daughter of the late George and Lucy (Strilka) Shermeta.

Rose grew up on her family’s dairy farm along with her five siblings. She attended West Winfield Central School in Herkimer County, NY. Rose left for New York City after meeting the love of her life Gregory at a dance when he was on leave from the military. After 6 short months they married on July 31, 1942. Rose worked as a safety officer for the New York Police Department. Following her retirement they moved to Pennsylvania and eventually settled in the state of Florida where they remained. She was a member of the Country Club of Mount Dora, where her biggest enjoyment was getting together with her friends for a round of golf. Rose played golf well into her 90’s. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved her.

Rose is survived by her sons: Andrew Ushko and his wife Nedra of Mt. Dora, FL and Paul Ushko and his wife Kathleen of Kerhonkson, NY, grandchildren: Paul Ushko and his wife Shawn, Dawn Somer and her husband David, Joseph Ushko and his wife Tara, James Ushko and his wife Shauna, Heather Hazzard and her husband Geoffrey, and Maria Stumpf and her husband Brian, great-grandchildren: Cody, Shiloh, Ashley, Michael, Stephen, Dakota, Michael, Alexandra, Victoria, Ryan, Mia and Delanie; great-great grandchildren, Sofia and Joseph as well as several nieces nephews and cousins.

Rose was predeceased by her husband Gregory; brothers, Paul and Stephen; sisters, Anne, Mary and Margaret.

Visiting will be held on Thursday, May 3rd from 2-4 pm to 6-8 pm.  A celebration of her life is scheduled for 9:00 am Friday, May 4th at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson, NY. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Queens, NY
