Olga Szysz

Olga Szysz of Kerhonkson, NY died Wednesday, March 5, 2014. She was 81. Olga was born on July 15, 1932 in Garfield, New Jersey, the daughter of George and Mary (Holub) Yacyniak.

Olga had lived in Garfield, NJ prior to moving to Kerhonkson. She was married to Wasyl Szysz who predeceased her in 2012. She taught 2nd & 3rd grade at the St. Nicholas Parochial School, Passaic. And before retiring in 1995 she was the accounts receivable clerk with General Felt Industries for 45 years. Olga was a member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Kerhonkson, the Ukrainian Congress Committee of America, the Organization for Defense of Four Freedoms for Ukraine, Self Reliance and the Pierogi Ladies.

Olga is survived by her daughter, Mary Panchyshyn of Kerhonkson, and her son-in-law, Adam Platosz of New Britain, CT. Her grandchildren; Eva Panchyshyn, Larysa Lutin and her husband Jeremy, Natalie Ruggiero and her husband Jesse, Nicholas Panchyshyn, Michael Platosz and Christine Platosz. Her great-granddaughter, Catarina Lutin and her niece Susan (Yacyniak) Hamilton. Besides her husband Wasyl, Olga was predeceased by her daughter Ann Platosz, her brothers Steve and Peter Yacyniak, and her sister Florence (Yacyniak) Kos.

Visiting hours will be Friday, March 7th from 5-7pm at HB Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson. The Panakhyda will begin at 6pm that evening. The Holy Sacrifice of the Divine Liturgy will be Saturday, March 8th 10am at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, Hamptonburgh.
