Maria Bastian

Maria Bastian of Binghamton, NY, formerly of Kerhonkson, NY and New Port Richey, FL passed away on December 23, 2010 at Elizabeth Church Manor in Binghamton. She was 88 years old.

Maria was born on June 26, 1922 in Andau, Austria; she was the daughter of John and Maria (Hofer) Oberhofer.

Mrs. Bastian was a devout Catholic all her life. While living in New Port Richey, Maria volunteered many years at the Thrift Shop run by the Catholic Church she belonged to.

On November 6, 1943 Maria married Frederick Bastian at St. Joseph’s Church in New York City. He passed away in 1989.

Maria is survived by her daughter Mary Garvey and her husband Raymond of Saugerties, her daughter Helene Linder and her husband Dwight of Binghamton,  and her daughter Hildegard Keary of Boston, MA.  She is also survived by her brothers Frank and Rudolph Oberhofer of Saskatchewan, Canada;  her sisters Minnie Roosdahl of British Columbia, Canada and Hilda Marosits of Austria;  her grandchildren Andrea Judge, Matthew Keary, Robin Duggan and William Keary;  and her great-grandchildren Chelsea and Corey Snyder and Liam Duggan.
