John W. Potts

John W. "Pottsie" Potts 83 of Accord, NY died at his home surrounded by his family and friends Wednesday, September 23, 2015. Born January 3, 1932 in Cornwall, NY he was the son of the late John C. " Jack " Potts and Dorothea Decker Potts Allen. 

A 1951 Graduate of Wallkill High School. A Sergeant in the U.S. Army during the Korean War he proudly served his Country from 1951 until 1955. And again from 1955 until 1958 he served in the Army Reserve. He worked for George Popp's Motorcycle Sales in Walden, NY. In 1960 he married the Love of his life Eleanor Decker Potts with whom he would celebrate 40 years of marriage. He worked at Foreign Motor Cycles Sales in Accord, NY for Jack Sartorius until it was sold in 1978. In 1962 he and his wife Eleanor moved to Accord where they would raise their family and enjoy their many many friends. In 1992 he retired from Charles River Laboratory in Stone Ridge, NY. During his retirement, John and Eleanor enjoyed the many Motorcycle trips they took with their Motorcycle buddies Ray and Joyce Smith and Harold and Alice Lonsdale. Their travels took them to Ottawa, Canada, Quebec, Canada, Laconia, New Hampshire, West Virginia, Florida and points in between. A lover of Classical Music and an accomplished Artist his passion for his Motorcycles and his Volkswagen Beetle were his greatest joy. In 2014 after 63 years he retired from Motorcycle riding.  

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife Eleanor. His Sister in law and Brother in law Alice and Robert Williams and his Brother in law Douglas Decker. 

He is survived by his daughter MaryAnn Potts of Accord, his son John W. Potts III and his companion Phyllis Schoonmaker of Accord. Two Grandsons, Christopher J. Potts of Accord and William W. Potts of Oneonta, NY. He is also survived by his brother in law and sister in law Edgar and Norma Decker of Worcester, NY, his nieces; Laurie Adams and her family, Allison Stratokos and her family, 13 nieces and nephews and many great and great great nieces and nephews and his Aunt in law Margaret Downer of Washington State, many cousins and his beloved cat, Mister Morris. His extended family Art and Sue Tompkins, his Grandson A.J. Tompkins and his fiancé Lauren and his Granddaughter Michele Cooper and her husband Kenneth Cooper all of Deltona, Florida, Steve Lynn of Hudson, NY. Ray and Joyce Smith, Joe and Marie Blank, Ed Weeks, Jim and Jean Newman, Dolores Stokes, Mel and Bert Taylor, Anna McGinnis, Phylis Sartorius, Jack Sartorius who died in 2014. Barbara Sartorius, John, David and Thomas Sartorius and their families. A very special thank you to the Hospice Staff; K.D., Elaine, Sarah, Midge, Hope, Lisa, Jim, Nick and Krista and Mary Flannaghan. Who made it possible for John to live his final months in his home surrounded by his family and friends.

There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
