Jewel Jalanti, 89, of Accord, NY, passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the Golden Hill Health Care Center. Born on October 26, 1921 in Staten Island; she was the daughter of Elizabeth (Stay) and William Jones.
Mrs. Jalanti retired from SUNY New Paltz after working there for 20 years. She was a past member of the Rosedale Reformed Church where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Reformed Church of America. Jewel was known for her love of art especially paintings, literature and cats. She was lovingly known as Grandma Moses by her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her children; David Jalanti and his wife Katherine Barnhart of Hudson, Paula Bell and her husband Gordon of Accord and Carole Wiley and her husband Frank of Caldwell, ID, her brothers; David Wilson and his wife Martha of Walden and Monte Wilson of Washingtonville, her sister; June Lawkins of Lake Katrine, seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Jewel was predeceased by her husband Veikko and her sister Katherine.
Services will be private and held at the discretion of the family.
