James Matthew Brady “Diamond Jim”, of Northport, Long Island, passed away on Thursday, January 20, 2011 at Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was 67 years old. James was born on August 2, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Patrick and Kathleen (Gorman) Brady.
Diamond Jim was a veteran of the United States Air Force. Following his Honorable Discharge he moved to Wawarsing, but realized his heart was in Long Island. He worked briefly for the Long Island Railroad and was known to be one of the youngest Engineers.
Diamond Jim is survived by his sister, Kitty Reilly and her husband Jim of Kerhonkson, his brothers, Peter Brady of Long Island and Patrick Brady and his wife Maureen of Florida, his nieces, Koren Arevallo and her husband John, Shelly Walsh and her husband Kenny all of Long Island, Stacy Brady of Staten Island, Deirdre Brady of Florida and Laura Cepeda of Kerhonkson, his nephews, Patrick Brady Jr. of Virginia, Louis Brady of Florida and James Reilly Jr. of Pennsylvania.
Visiting will be held on Sunday, January 23rd from 6-8PM at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson, NY 12446. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 24th at 10:00AM at Our Lady of Lourdes in Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Jim’s name to Hospice of Ulster County, 34 Broadway, Kingston, NY 12401.
