Irene “Winckowska” Zajac
Irene Zajac of Accord, NY died at Benedictine Hospital in Kingston on Friday, August 28th, 2009. Her immediate family was by her side.
Irene was born in Brooklyn, New York on January 22nd, 1925. As a young woman she was a Neutrogena model, nightclub singer and also worked as a Polish dancer at the1939 World's Fair in New York. She gave up her career and married. She raised five children by herself with love, compassion, and generosity.
When she went back to work it was for the rectory at Our Lady of Czestochowa in Brooklyn. She also worked in home care for the aged where she was well loved for her compassionate and loving nature. When she retired, she moved to Kerhonkson, NY where her passion for gardening flourished from a small backyard in Park Slope, Brooklyn to a Garden of Eden in Ulster County. Her last years were spent in Accord, NY with her eldest daughter, Diana.
She is survived by three loving daughters, Diana Farkas Zegel of Accord, NY, Bonnie Siconolfi of Glen Head, NY; Marian Stafford Zajac and her husband Douglas Stafford of High Falls, NY, a loving son, Gregory Zajac and his wife Genevieve of Kerhonkson, NY, as well as five loving grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
