Fred M Shade Jr.

Fred M. Shade Jr. of Kerhonkson, NY passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at the Ellenville Regional Hospital. He was 77 years old. Fred was born on July 10, 1935 in Hickory, NC; he was the son of Fred and Eva (Shuford) Shade.

Mr. Shade retired from the United States Army in 1977 following 22 years of honorable service. He earned the rank of Sergeant and was awarded many medals including several bronze stars.

Fred was a past member of the Kerhonkson-Accord First Aid and Rescue Squad. He retired from the Rondout Valley School District where he was a bus driver and later a custodian. Mr. Shade was also an umpire for many years with the Indian Valley Little League where he was highly respected not only by the children he coached but by their parents as well.

Mr. Shade is survived by his wife Ruth whom he married in 1975, his brother Arthur Shade and his wife Roberta of Long Island, his sister Lucille Hoffman and her companion Stanley of New York City and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Fred was predeceased by his brother James Shade.

Visiting will be held on Thursday, May 30th from 5-8 pm with a celebration of his life beginning at 7:30 at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42^nd Street, Kerhonkson.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Fred’s name to the Indian Valley Little League or the Kerhonkson-Accord First Aid Squad.
