Frances O. Cross, age 80 of Stone Ridge, died peacefully at home on December 1, 2017. Frances Marie Osterhoudt was born to the late George Osterhoudt and Mary Kochek Osterhoudt on December 1, 1937. She was united in marriage to Wessel V. Cross on December 27, 1958 in Ellenville, New York. He preceded her in death September 23, 2003.
Frances graduated from Ellenville High School in 1954 and was a 1958 graduate of New Paltz Teachers College. Upon graduating college, Frances became a first grade teacher in Marbletown Elementary School, which is part of the Rondout Central School District.
After having children, Frances turned her attention to being a mother and a homemaker. She loved cooking and baking and enjoyed preparing meals and making goodies for her family and friends. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing and often volunteered her time to judge 4-H exhibits at the Ulster County Fair. Once her children were old enough to attend school, she returned to teaching on a substitute basis with the Rondout Central School District.
Frances is survived by her children; Kurt Cross (Jan) of Stone Ridge, Gregory Cross (Rita) of Glasgow, Kentucky and Lynne Menard (Paul) of Wappingers Falls; her brother Donald Osterhoudt (Marge) of Yreka, California, and her sister Beatrice Carillo of Centerport, Long Island; six grandchildren, Jennifer Masters (Brianne), Daniel Cross (Renee), Caitlin Johnson (Ethan), Alexa Westgate, Emma Westgate and Braeden Westgate; and two great-grandsons, Colin and Wesley. Frances is also survived by a brother-in-law, sister-in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Visiting will be held on Wednesday, December 6th from 4-7PM at Humiston Funeral Home, 30 42nd St., Kerhonkson. A graveside service will follow on Thursday the 7th 11AM at Benton Bar Cemetery, Kyserike.
