Elaine Oprysko

Elaine Oprysko of Accord, NY died Thursday, January 27, 2011. She was 83 years old. Elaine was born on May 18, 1927 in Astoria, NY the daughter of Michael and Anna (Gazda) Figurski.

She will forever be remembered for her tireless promotion of the Ukrainian culture through her two dance groups, the Ukrainian Dancers of Astoria, and the Kerhonkson Ukrainian Dancers, for which she served as founder/instructor/choreographer. 

Elaine is survived by her husband Nicholas; her daughter Maria, and sons Paul, Andrew, Peter and his wife Sheila, and her three grandchildren, Patrice, Erin and Jacqueline.

Visiting hours will be Monday, January 31st from 5-7pm at HB Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson. The Panakhyda will begin at 6pm that evening. The Holy Sacrifice of the Divine Liturgy will be Tuesday, February 1st 10am at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kerhonkson. Burial will follow at Holy Spirit Cemetery, Hamptonburgh.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Elaine's name, to the St. Jude's Children Hospital, the ASPCA, or the Children from Chernobyl Relief fund.
