Edward Herman "Ed" Baden

Edward Herman “Ed” Baden of Kerhonkson, formerly of Red Hook, NY, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2021 at Vassar Hospital. He was 82 years old. Ed was born on April 9, 1938 in Lynbrook, Long Island; he was the son of Herman and Mimi (Gerdes) Baden.

Ed graduated with the first graduating class of Massapequa Long Island High School in 1956. He was a very active community volunteer, especially with youth and veterans activities. He was a dedicated 50-year member of the Red Hook-Rhinebeck Elks Lodge #2022, was the Past Exalted Ruler (P.E.R.), and held every officer’s position except one. He was involved with every Elks Lodge activity or event. He was the President of the Red Hook Little League and was manager of the Manny’s Barber Shop and Red Hook Drug Store teams. For many years Ed ran the Junior Bowling Program at 9-G Lanes in Rhinebeck and coached hundreds of  youngsters in the sport. He bowled with the Silver Lake Dairy and Herm’s Grocery bowling teams and was the Secretary/Treasurer of the Twin Village bowling league for many years. Ed loved all sports, especially the NY Yankees, NY Giants, NY Knicks, NY Rangers, and NASCAR. He was a former member of the St. John’s Episcopal Church in Barrytown, NY and Manorton Church (Columbia County). Ed worked for International Harvester dealerships his entire adult life. Prior to retirement, he worked as Office Manager at Ben Funk Inc. in Hudson, NY and was the Secretary/Treasurer for Healey International in Poughkeepsie, NY.

Ed is survived by his son, Michael Baden and companion Tracy Betterton of Kerhonkson; brother Harry Baden of Virginia; former wife Carol Goodrich of Naples, FL, and five nieces and nephews.

The family will hold memorial services at a later date.
