Donald H. Keator of Accord, NY passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 22, 2017. He was 81 years old. Donald was the son of Grace Hornbeck Keator and Harold Keator.
Don worked for the New York City Board of Water Supply-Ashokan Reservoir for 28 years in Building and Grounds Maintenance. Don and his wife Lynette also spent many years operating their catering business, "Let Keator Cater It". They also owned and operated a convenient store/pizzeria "The Mombaccus Miracle". Don also worked for the Town of Rochester Highway Department for several years. He was a simple, hard working man who always took pride in his work. It was very important to him that he accomplished something every day. Don enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, his time in Florida, his Grandchildren, his church and his wonderful friends. He was the man of many "one liners" and a great smile.
Don was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He was a member of many lodges in the Greene-Ulster District and a current member of Rondout Masonic Lodge #343. He was a member of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, Cyprus Temple, Albany, NY for many years. He was also a 32nd Degree Shriner. Don was a member and former Exalted Ruler of the Elks Lodge #1971 in Napanoch, NY. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge in Crystal River, FL. He was a proud member of the High Falls Community Church. Don was also a dedicated, lifelong Democrat.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lynette; his daughters, Cheryl Keator and Tanya (Griffin) DeWitt and his grandchildren Makaila and Joshua Ouellette, and Amanda DeWitt. He is also survived by his beloved friend Dolores Dawson.
Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, March 4th from 4pm to 8pm at Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson, NY. A Memorial Service will take place at 6pm that evening.
