Bruce Olin Clarke of Hartwell, GA, formerly of Accord and Kerhonkson, NY, died Saturday, March 20, 2010. He was 77 years old. Bruce was born on February 1, 1933 in White Plains, NY the son of Olin and Olive (Atkins) Clarke.
Bruce was a graduate of Kingston High School and earned a BA of Education at SUNY New Paltz. He was a veteran of the US Air Force having served during the Korean Conflict as a pilot of the C-119 “Flying Boxcar”. Following his honorable discharge Mr. Clarke married Barbara Dix on August 2, 1957 in New Paltz. Barbara had died in March 2002.
During his 50 years in the Accord-Kerhonkson area Bruce was a Science Teacher for the Rondout Valley Elementary and Middle School System having retired in 1986. He was a member of the Dutch Reformed Church of Accord, was President of the NYSUT Teachers Union and was an avid golfer. Bruce also had a gift for making beautiful furniture; he sold many pieces and had won awards for his workmanship.
After retiring, Bruce moved to Hartwell, GA and was a member of the Methodist Church, Golden K and the VFW.
Bruce is survived by his daughters, Patricia Aguirre of Greenville, SC and Kristen Quick and her husband Wayne of Hartwell, GA. Six grandchildren; Jesse (Stacie) Feith of Houston, TX, Jared Feith of Greenville, SC, Olivia (Johnny) O’Connell of Piedmont, SC, Ramiro (Breanna) Aguirre of Colorado Springs, CO, Jennifer Quick and Jake Quick of Hartwell, GA. Eight great grandchildren. His brother, Roger (Lynn) Clarke of Germantown, NY.
