Barry Jay Van Demark

June 7, 1951 — March 31, 2022

On March 31st, 2022 Barry J. Van Demark passed away peacefully at Vassar Brothers Medical Center with his daughter by his side.  Barry was born on June 7th, 1951 in Ellenville, NY.  Barry was the son of the late Byron C. Van Demark and Ethel B. (Wheeler) Van Demark.  Barry was an extremely talented man and a wealth of knowledge.  He knew a lot of history about his home town and surrounding areas.  Barry started working at a very young age for his parent’s business where he would pump gas and deliver house fuel with his father.  Barry also owned a plumbing and heating business for many years.  He worked for various other employers throughout the years, and for the last twenty four years he worked for Van Demark's Automotive in Accord.

Barry met his wife Kathy at Terwilliger’s Fruit Stand when he was working for his parents and Kathy was working for her parents.  They were together for 43 years before Kathy passed away in 2021.  Barry loved his family and spending time with them.  He was a great husband to his late wife Kathy and a great father to his daughter Bobbi Jo.  

Barry was very into watching his NASCAR races every Saturday night or Sunday.  Barry also loved country music, he loved Alan Jackson's "Tall, Tall, Trees" and "Chattahoochee" sometimes he would get up and dance with the music or sing along.  Barry was an avid reader.  He would read books, magazines, newspapers and loved to solve the puzzles in the newspaper.

In addition to his daughter Bobbi Jo, Barry leaves behind his mother-in-law Evelyn Terwilliger of Kerhonkson, NY; his sister-in-law Veronica and husband George Rider of Kerhonkson, NY, his sister-in-law Loretta and Paul Rider of Vonore, TN and brother-in-law David Mertine of Kingston, NY.  His nieces and nephews, Ronald Rider of Kerhonkson, NY, Timothy (Shannon) Pagliaroni Jr. of Accord, NY, Rhonda Rider of Accord, Alida (Craig) Miller of Stone Ridge, NY, Andrew (Lindy) Pagliaroni of Kerhonkson, NY, Stephanie Decker (Kim Milburn) of Vonore, TN, Arthur (Kelsey) Decker of Vonore, TN, and Brooke Rider of Vonore, TN.  Barry's great nieces and nephews, Domenic and Hunter Palazzolo, Cierra Miller,  Sophia and Lia Pagliaroni, Cole Van Gorder, Kampton Decker and Korbyn Decker. His cousins, Steve (Veronica) Van Demark of Accord, NY, Sherri (William) Torres of Kingston, NY, Andrew (Brittany) Ames of Accord, NY, and Donald (AshleyEan) Van Demark of Accord, NY. Barry also leaves behind some really great life-long friends Martin (Anne) Duffy of Poughkeepsie, NY, Clifford (Cathy) Wicks of Midwest City, OK, and Gail Marano of Accord, NY. Barry was predeceased by the love of his life, Kathy Lynn Van Demark, his father Byron C. Van Demark and his mother Ethel B. (Wheeler) Van Demark, his aunt Millicent Van Demark, his father-in-law Ronald Terwilliger, his brother-in-law Timothy Pagliaroni, Sr. and his sister-in-law Sharon Pagliaroni-Mertine.

A graveside service will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 4th, 11am at Fairview Cemetery, 33 Fairview Cemetery Lane, Stone Ridge, NY 12484. Please send sympathy cards to Bobbi Jo at 40 Colonial Drive, Apt. A, New Paltz, NY 12561.
